Borough Buzz is out to uncover stories about how New Yorkers succeed or struggle with living in the big city. What issues and problems do they face at home? At school? At work and in their neighborhoods?  It is a news website produced by students at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

Meet the BoroughBuzz.com Team

Anugya Chitransh is a multimedia journalist based in New York. She started as a journalist when she edited and wrote articles for her high school magazine. As an undergrad she was a part of her college magazine and newspaper. She likes to travel and regional politics and that is why she is specializing in International Reporting at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

Rosa Goldensohn is a reporter based in Brooklyn. Her work has appeared on/in DNAinfo.com, City Limits, BOMB, The Huffington Post and elsewhere, and she is currently working on research and production for VICE on HBO Season 2. She is getting a master’s at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, where her focus is data-driven investigative reporting.

Sandeep Junnarkar is an award-winning journalist who has worked at the New York Times and CNET News.com. He is the director of Interactive Journalism at The City University of New York’s Graduate School of Journalism.

Camilo Gomez is enrolled in the M.A. program at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. He previously worked at the press office of the Colombian Ministry of Culture in Bogota, Colombia. He spent two years publishing profiles, interviews and stories in the ministry’s website. Some of his work has been published in Colombian media, such as the cultural supplement of newspapers like El Tiempo and La Patria. Since moving to New York City his work has appeared in the news website Youth Today and Brian Lehrer Live show on CUNY Television.

Pamela Granda is a freelance multimedia journalist based in New York. She is currently working towards her master’s degree at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, with a concentration in business and economics. She is vice president of the CUNY chapter of NAHJ.

Gabriella Iannetta is New York based multimedia journalist and is working on her Master’s degree at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism for Business Reporting. Before starting school, she worked in social media, market research and freelance reporting for a local paper in her hometown. Since pursuing her degree, she has worked on local New York City stories with visual components.

Jennifer Lehman is a professional dabbler (baby bottle sales to farming) and eavesdropper (yes, she is listening to all the boring details of your life on the subway and is on the edge of her seat), and both prove useful when reporting and finding new stories. A child of the West, she is enjoying New York by way of Colorado, California and then Colorado again, and is working on a masters in journalism with a focus on health and science reporting at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

Rachael Levy is a freelance reporter in New York City. Her work has appeared in/on the New York Daily News, The Chicago Tribune, The Atlantic, Global Post, City Limits and others. She is focusing on business reporting at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. She holds a B.A. in international politics from the American University of Paris.

Kyle Ligman is a reporter who has lived in Wisconsin, Florida, NY and Belgium. At CUNY Graduate School of Journalism he has focused on hyper-local reporting for The Nabe, covering Fort Greene and Clinton Hill. His concentration is in Health and Science with an emphasis on sports nutrition, which comes from his passion for rock climbing.

Sandra Lopez-Monsalve is a multimedia journalist who is passionate telling audio stories. You can hear her work on WBCR in New York and Javeriana Stereo 91.9 FM in Colombia. She started her career as a sound engineer and media producer with a focus on the arts, media and entertainment.

Sarah Mortimer is a writer and multimedia storyteller living in Brooklyn, NY. A charmer of bodega owners citywide and a master of taxi “real talk”, Sarah finds compelling stories in the everyday and maps them onto the internet. Born in Canada, Sarah reps her hometown of Guelph.

Jacob Passy is a freelance multimedia journalist and student at the CUNY Graduate School of journalism, concentrating in business reporting. He got his start in journalism as a writer, and later features and multimedia editor, for The Tufts Daily, one of the top ten college newspapers according to Princeton Review. Jacob’s work has appeared on the Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog, Sheepshead Bites, and CUNY News. Jacob graduated with a B.A. in international relations from Tufts University. After completing his master’s, he plans to pursue a career in online journalism, with a focus on national political reporting.

Ashley Rodriguez is a New York-based multimedia journalist with a passion for all things digital. She has a fondness for alternative press, and in her spare time, enjoys traveling, the morning paper and a good cup of coffee. Rodriguez is currently pursuing her master’s degree at the CUNY School of Journalism.

Emilie Ross is working on a master’s in journalism at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, with a concentration in health and science reporting. She’s a native of Northern California, and loves to tell human stories.

Dody Tsiantar is a freelance reporter and editor who until June, 2006, was senior business reporter at Time magazine, covering the advertising, beauty, retail and travel industries. She began her career as a special correspondent at the Washington Post in 1983 and later worked as a business reporter and associate editor for Newsweek. She teaches at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

Oresti Tsonopoulos is a multimedia storyteller who lives in Brooklyn, New York. Though his work predominantly lives online, his videos for The New York Times have been featured on JetBlue flights and his musician-centric pieces for NBC New York have been featured in taxi cabs across NYC. He studied recorded music at NYU, participated in the non-fiction collaborative program at UnionDocs and is currently working on his master’s in journalism at CUNY.
